First Apple compatible dosimeter-radiometer Do-Ra, developed in Russia announced

Moscow, April 16th 2012 First Apple-compatible prototype of dosimeter-radiometer DO-RA, which works with the smartphone iPhone 4, 4s.  The project is run by the resident at Skolkovo, in the cluster of nuclear technology.   In January 2012, Intersoft Evrasia received its first grant from Skolkovo Foundation for DO-RA  project.  According to the market value evaluation method for intangible assets developed by Deloitte & Touche for the Russian market, market value of the exclusive right to DO-RA assets, patents and invenstions is over $223 million.

Recently, Japanese company TAKEMORI corp., has demonstrated interest in the project and sign an agreement of intent with «Intersoft Eurasia Co. Ltd.»,( «DO-RA» project operator).  TAKEMORI corp. estimates that the market size for the similar devices in Japan can be between 3 and 6 million units a year. In addition, the sales od similar devices will hold for a considerable period of time, several decades.

When reporting the finishing stages of the project, Vladimir Elin, developer and the manager of «DO-RA» project, presented a proof concept for the mobile dosimeter-radiometer that was compatible with Apple’s  Smartphone iPhone 4, 4s.

Do-Ra is a radioactivity indicator with the functions of dosimeter-radiometer.  The device works with mobile applications DO-RA.Soft, developed by Intersoft Evrasia, which can be downloaded to your Smartphone or a cell phone free of charge through the Internet.   After that, the device is connected through a radio jack for the phone headset.  DO-RA device measure radiation level every 4 seconds and within the first 60 seconds the measurement results are constantly checked for accuracy and precision.   After 60 seconds, the measurement results with potential accuracy are shown on the screen of the Smartphone with the radiation level of a locality, a studied object or groceries.

Main Do-Ra features:

  • Identifying accumulated irradiation dose on the cell phone/Smartphone owner in hourly, daily weekly, monthly, weekly or yearly time interval
  • Signaling about permissible, maximum safe or impermissible level of irradiation with voice commands such as “normal irradiation dose”, “maximum safe irradiation dose”, and “impermissible irradiation dose” (according to human irradiation safety norms NPB-99/2009)
  • Creating graphs depicting state of organs and systems of the person that uses the cell phone/Smartphone equipped with DO-RA depending on received and accumulated irradiation dose (based on medical research from many years).
  • Generating recommendations to the cell phone/Smartphone owner on preventative measures depending on received and accumulated irradiation dose.
  • Automatic report generating on radiation (dose rate) at owner’s location in real time with coordinates based on GLONASS or GPS through cellular service providers.
  • Automatic transmission of data on radiation at location of the person that uses the cell phone/Smartphone equipped with DO-RA in accordance with his coordinates to the analytical center of world radiation monitoring for further data processing and analysis.
  • Returning accumulated information, that is gathered by the world center for radiation monitoring from cell phones/Smartphones that were especially checked and selected as visual maps of locations, water bodies, etc. that depict level of radiation.

In the future new generations of the DO-RA device will be produced with the help of the radiation sensors biult with Silicium (Si) and graphene nanostructure.  It will be a measuring device of high accuracy and great compactness.  Appropriate patents in RF for the effective models of these types of sensors have already been acquired. It will be a measuring device of high accuracy and great compactness.  Appropriate patents in RF for the effective models of these types of sensors have already been acquired.

As of April 16th, 2012, project designers have developed ergonomic solutions for the DO-RA case when it is connected through the audio jack and USB-port for iPhone-4, 4s.  Now, the team is working on design of the DO-RA device for other types of Smartphones and cell phones.

In the future, if the agreement with Smartphone, cell phone, PDAs, tablet computer, laptop, navigator producers is reached, DO-RA device can become a one standard microchip with a sensor inside the aforementioned devices.  The radiation sensor will look like a Smartphone camera, i.e. its linear dimensions will be similar.

The device inventor and head of the DO-RA project, Vladimir Elin says: “Today, we have a set of prototypes for the DO-RA device and the entire technological string for acquiring, analyzing and processing data as well as transmitting accurate measurements of the radiation levels (dose rate).  Thanks to the DO-RA device, the acquired data is processed and transmitted to the user on the Smartphone screen as digital and graphic visuals.  In addition, measurement results can be transmitted to the World Integrated Center for Radiation monitoring.  In the future, based on disembodied measurement data from millions of people, we will be able to build an integrated radiation map of the earth.  Thereby, we lay the scientific groundwork for the interested public.  It is necessary for the next stage of the grant at Skolkovo, where we plan to facilitate data gathering and processing for radiation levels at different locations based on cloud technologies.  I am confident that if we are able to fill the world with these devices, the people will form the map of safe and not so safe places on Earth.  It will be the most independent and truthful information there is, uncensored and open.”

About the project:

The original idea of creating the «DO-RA» device was born on March 29th, 2011, after writing an article “Our radioactive world”. Vladimir first studied a review on dosimeters and radiometers on the Internet. After that, he bought a couple of domestic dosimeters and took them apart to study the insides. Then, he conducted research patent research to clear the idea. Here is when a possibility arose to identify the uniqueness of the useful model. It appeared that there are no similar projects as hybrid between a cellular phone, Smartphone and dosimeters-radiometers in studied patents of many countries. There were similar projects, but not in the form where it was possible to define a formula for a useful model of the «DO-RA» device and later on, obtain a Russian patent for the dosimeter- radiometer device based on a cell phone/Smartphone. This is exactly where uniqueness of «DO-RA» lies. There were no other similar devices for the period of the patent research and filing international application for the effective model. That is why Vladimir Elin owns the Patent in RF and the priority right for uniqueness and reproductability for the effective model of the «DO-RA» device. The priority was granted on June 24th, 2011. Patent applications were filed in USA, Japan, China, European Union and Ukraine.  Name Do-Ra was born from first two letters from the word: dosimeter-radiometer or «DO-RA». Russian and English abbreviations coincide, which facilitates additional recognition for the device.
