Russian startups seek Shenzhen partnership (Shenzhen Daily, 21.04.2014)

Startups from the IT sector of Russian Skolkovo Innovation Center are seeking collaboration in Shenzhen. Meanwhile, local high-tech giants like Huawei and ZTE will probably establish research centers with them after Microsoft, Samsung, Intel and more global companies.

Launched in 2010, Skolkovo is a non-profit government-run foundation, bringing scientists, entrepreneurs and venture investors together to create an ecosystem in five high-priority areas of Russia’s economy: biomedicine, IT, space, nuclear and energy.

“We have talked with colleagues from Huawei and authorized Shenzhen High-tech Industrial Park in the undertaking to select a team of startups to join our Startup Village,” said Igor Bogachev, director of IT cluster at the International ICT Expo, which closed in Hong Kong on April 16.

The Startup Village is a major international event for startup companies, investors and potential customers. It will be held in the center June 2 and 3, and the first-prize winner can get up to US$150,000.

“The best thing about Skolkovo is the platform for startups to meet with top professionals, share ideas and experiences, and enjoy additional support to create new things,” said Maxim Kostin, technical director of DigiFlak R&D, a solution provider of digital security that has its hardware manufactured in Shenzhen.

With over 1,000 startups, the innovation center yielded a total of US$600 million in revenue last year, of which the IT cluster accounted for two-thirds. Bogachev said that the startups have to localize their products and seek collaboration if they want to achieve success in the Chinese market.

Do-Ra, another resident of the innovation center, has been working with China since 2012 through a representative office in Shenzhen and is planning to make all of its production lines in two factories in the city.

 

The international political and economic Chinese market will become Russia's "Silicon Valley" next major goal (Xinhua News Agency Information, 18.04.2014)

Senior Vice President Vasily Belov from Skolkovo Innovation Center, known as the "Silicon Valley" in Russia, which is on the 17th place in innovation and development rating, said in Hong Kong that Chinese companies’ IT hardware facilities are strong.  Russia has an advantage in software design; the two sides have a greater complementarity. He said that for Skolkovo the huge Chinese market demand of high-tech enterprises will become the next major target market.

The Skolkovo delegation just ended a four-day International ICT Expo trip. At the last day’s  media roundtable Vasily said that Skolkovo first visit to Hong Kong was fruitful, and “due to huge Chinese market demand, we are here to explore more potential and synergy, the market will be our next major goal, and Hong Kong is the gateway of choice into the Asian market. "

It is reported that there are eight accompanying start-ups from Russia, the level of business areas including environmental radiation monitoring, large data solutions, intelligent multimedia search engine and information technology security. Maxim Kostin from one of the companies told reporters that his company found two potential partners in Hong Kong, he was optimistic about Hong Kong and the Mainland market,  and expects to strengthen the security system of the developed hardware. The next year’s trend is to turn use security processor as internal mobile device.

Vasily also said Skolkovo has discussed potential partnerships with the Hong Kong Science Park and Cyberport in order to create favorable conditions for the cultivation of high-tech start-up companies in future for both sides, while the Russian Skolkovo will bring more companies to Hong Kong to seek cooperation opportunities.

Skolkovo is a nonprofit organization, funded by the Russian government in May 2010 with $ 5 billion investment. Its five priority research areas include information technology, space technology, biotechnology, nuclear energy and energy efficiency. The agency has attracted over the past three years over 1000 companies, key partners  including Boeing, Microsoft, Nokia and Siemens and other famous enterprises.

Russian delegation "Silicon Valley" visiting Hong Kong praised the innovative atmosphere (China News Agency, 17.04.2014)

Skolkovo Innovation Center,  known as Russia's "Silicon Valley", sent a delegation to visit Hong Kong, and the Hong Kong Science Park and Hong Kong enterprises to exchange scientific and technological innovation. Russian delegation to Hong Kong praised the innovative atmosphere that provides for a huge space for cooperation between Hong Kong and Russia in the field of technological innovation.

Skolkovo innovation center by the created and managed by "Skolkovo Foundation" since May 2010, when it was funded by the Russian government  with investment of $ 5 billion. The Innovation Center has attracted nearly 1,000 international companies to join. The delegation visiting Hong Kong, the Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks and their technology companies have expressed willingness to cooperate with the Hong Kong side and seek business opportunities.

Vasily Belov, senior vice president of Skolkovo Innovation Centre Innovation said that the Hong Kong market is increasingly important for Russia's science and technology enterprises. As an international city with a highly developed information technology and service industries Hong Kong offers advantages to Russian research the company's products to enter the international market, the city also creates favorable conditions for  Russian companies to find international partners.

Belov underlined that Hong Kong and Russia have a lot of research and innovation core similarities in common areas of cooperation, and innovation is essential for economic cooperation, but also to scientific and technological personnel exchanges between the two places. He said the trip to Hong Kong was conducted  to find opportunities for cooperation and it will be a good start for a long-term cooperation in the future.

Skolkovo Innovation Center IT Cluster Director Igor Bogachev said that Russia and Hong Kong cooperation on technological innovation has great potential, Hong Kong has advantages in terms of hardware design, and innovative atmosphere for new ventures The development is very favorable, and Russian companies in software and other aspects of the operation have advantages, coupled with a more in-depth cooperation between China and Russia.

There are eight companies, including AlgoMost Chief  Executive Officer of Data Information Michael Leview pointed out that Hong Kong is very important for Russian technology companies to develop new markets and business, visit to Hong Kong to seek partners to make good progress. He planned the second half of the business segments in Asia based in Hong Kong.

A key to the development of information security products FLAK CTO Maxim Kostin said he found two potential partner companies.
