DO-RA nanostructure-based dosimeter/radiometer

DO-RA project emergence history is simple and rather brief - the idea was published as Our Radioactive World article on March 29, 2011; priority in mobile dosimeter/radiometer development was set out on June 24, 2011; the Russian Patent No. 109625 was issued on October 20, 2011. The name of the project and of the device itself is made of the first two syllables of DOsimeter/RAdiometer word combination reflecting their nature. The project will result in emerging the family of pocket dosimeter/radiometers on the basis of mobile/smart phones for leading international operation platforms (iOS, MacOS, RIM Blackberry, Android, Windows, Linux, etc.) Initially, they will operate as a plug-in component of mobile devices. In the future we hope to make an agreement with main mobile/smart phone manufacturers on integrating DO-RA into phones.

DO-RA is designed for performing main functions of dosimeter and radiometer in measurement ranges common among consumer dosimeters/radiometers. But DO-RA will have the following advantages over its consumer competitors:

1. DO-RA will include the unique broadband sensor based on Graphene nanostructure. We have just got the positive opinion on issuing the Russian patent for the utility model of such radiation sensor.

2. You have no more to carry two devices - the dosimeter/radiometer itself and a mobile/smart phone separately. DO-RA will be developed on the basis of the mobile device itself, using its operation system, processor, display, etc.

3. DO-RA will operate in GPS/GLONASS navigation mode with devices having such option measuring radiation background anywhere. A DO-RA owner may allow for using the coordinates and measurements to generate the on-line world radiation map.

4. DO-RA based on software loaded from App Store, Marketplace, Android Market, etc. will be compatible with key operational systems. In the case of radiation exposure, DO-RA informs its owner on risk level and develops measures to remedy exposure results. This information will be available in the Personal Account section with password protection.

We have already manufacture dozens of DO-RA samples of various modifications based on radiation sensors of Russian origin. Moreover, we have already developed DO-RA software family for key operation systems of various types of mobile devices, including notebooks, netbooks, communicators and tablets.  The work is really in full swing!
