Russians have caught up with Japanese by developing the smart phone-based dosimeter/radiometer

Modern people are constantly becoming more and more aware of importance of radiation safety.  Continuous flow of information on new catastrophes and their results increases concern of monitoring radioactive background.  Scientists and inventors all over the world are searching for reliable solution of this problem.  Russians have not become an exception.

Vladimir Elin from Russia, the Chairman of the Board of Smart Logistic Group has recently visited Japan. He leads a group of gifted programmers and engineers designing a mobile/smart phone-based DO-RA dosimeter/radiometer in Skolkovo Innovation City on the basis of his patent.

DO-RA web site www.intersofteurasia.ru  contains much interesting and even striking information. The IPhone-4 style design of the future DO-RA device is impressive.  It looks like developed by an Apple designer contracted by Russians.  Everything is fine, simple and convenient.  The device itself is very compact and looks user-friendly.  According to the on-site presentation, you should just plug the device in the USB port of a smart phone to monitor radioactive background.  The web site does not reveal any DO-RA specifications, but you can admire excellent styling of its menu. The history section of the site is very interesting.  The author himself describes in Inventor's Papers his feelings experienced during development of this new useful device with frankness and humor.

It is wonderful that no one had come to an idea of such simple and popular gadget gracefully integrating with smart phones, until DO-RA was patented. It is interesting, if Tim Cook has any ideas on the Russian invention and the Russian designers. May be it was DO-RA he bore in his mind as a missing device for the Apple smart phone when delaying IPhone-5 presentation!?

In his Papers published at the web site, Mr. Elin vividly describes his talks with large electronic corporations in Tokyo, in which Doctor Alexander Kairis, his Japanese DO-RA partner took part, as well as how Japanese were ingenuously surprised to discover that skilled and smart engineers are still working in Russia. It turns out that Russians have moved further. They adapted DO-RA to all international software platforms running on the most popular operation systems: iOS, MacOS, Android, Windows…, and even JavaME and Brew!

We wish good luck to these guys in their complex electronic business!
